Elancourt

Elancourt launched webcasts of their monthly town council meetings on 24th September 2008. Prior to webcasting, only 6 senior citizens would attend council meetings - now they have an average of 1,903 viewers (374 live, 1529 archive). Initial high-profile PR generated a lot of this and they plan to increase viewership and attendance by webcasting further events that attract young people. The Elancourt website is being updated to reflect a more dynamic approach to e-Participation with more content and interactivity for regular municipal meetings. And, to consult citizens before decisions are made by the Municipal Council, as well as providing training for councillors to give shorter, more focused and interesting presentations. To get more young people interested in the Council, the mayor will start webcasts targeted specifically at them and likewise for the Senior Citizens' Council. Other content produced has included the Mayor’s New Year Speech and online conferences (with topics such as the economic crisis), debates, Open University use, district meetings and broadcasting local cultural events using their mobile equipment.
